After 25 years of activity, it is not easy to sum up all our actions, and the results of our projects cannot be reduced to a few figures and tables. How can we encapsulate in figures the changes in a family due to the technical and general education given to the mother? Housing, food, health and the education of every member of the family have all been positively affected. Greater stability and peace in the family are often the result of such an action. Thousands of personal stories make up the tapestry of ACTEC's social statement. Nevertheless, as an institution, we have to present some indicators of the results of our activities. These indicators are not the total sum of our work but a reflection among many others.

We believe that development action must also be subject to a sensible quantitative evaluation, as resources are limited and it is important to use them in the best way possible. Moreover, our view of development pays particular attention to the sustainability of each programme. It is not enough just to construct and equip technical training centres. They have to be long-term projects, capable of dealing with large numbers of people. For many years now, the ACTEC team has followed up activities to ascertain the results of long-term projects since 1982. One observation comforts us: in spite of errors and failures, most projects continue working fully and many have improved and extended their range after our support was finished.
